Recorded in Athens,Ga 2006- In 2006, An influx of music began for me. 2 years earlier, I met Bill Doss and The Sunshine Fix. I toured America with Bill as his lead guitarist and I was flourishing in the music scene playing with several bands and meeting new people in our quaint hometown. The last few summers I had crossed paths with Nikki Sudden, another residual effect and benefit of the foreign ambassadors of Athens, Ga, a worldwide famed band, our own REM. Nikki Sudden, a prolific, driven British songwriter of The Swell Maps fame would make his presence in the summers (at least the last couple) with long sleeve paisley shirts, long pants and a scarf wrapped around his neck. I knew when Nikki was in town because all of the western style and cool psychedelic shirts in size small at the thrift stores were gone. That’s my size! I crossed paths with Nikki at The Go Bar on Prince Avenue on a few occasions and we’d have conversations about The Beatles vs The Stones, Vox guitars and how I should get an original one because the pickups sounded amazing. It was after that one night that we shared our love for Ringo and Charlie Watts, that THE NEXT DAY I got a phone call from a dear friend and amazing musician, Adam Musick inviting me to record with him. He gave me zero details. I remember this day like it was yesterday. I was driving down Washington St. , approaching the end of the block, the 40 Watt Rock club to my left, when my fliptop phone buzzed...I was on my way to work when I said, “ Great! I’d love to work with you, just let me know when”. Adam: Well, I need you now. Me: now? , ok, where? Adam: Chase Park. I called in to work and my co-worker Molly was glad to cover for me. Perfect timing! Instead of making a left at the stop sign, I made a right and I was on my way to the studio. This was by far the best decision I had made in awhile. ( Follow my heart and say yes.) I showed up and Nikki Sudden was in the room. A meaningful coincidence! One note that Nikki whispered to me: Play the song like Charlie Watt would. I learned a valuable lesson that day... It’s about the song. The sum of the song, not one part. Adam and Nikki and the band , including myself went on to record two tracks on a 7” single ( Bar room Blues) with much delight. So, this is the pivotal point where I ask Nikki to play on my record and he said yes! The next day I picked up Nikki (dressed up with a long sleeve shirt and scarf) in my work van with no a/c (again in the middle of a summer in the south) and that didn’t seem to bother Nikki one bit. He told me the first time that he visited Athens. Pete Buck picked him up from the airport in his Hearst. We talked about cool late 70’s , early 80’s bands... The Film Club, The Truth, Dept. S , The Only Ones and more. He had a story or an experience with all these bands and I think it impressed him that this kid from the south knew about these bands, but maybe not. We are in Athens, Ga after all. -Peter

I learned early on guitar rhythm is where it’s at. *If guitar rhythm isn’t happening then there’s not much I can do on drums to make it right. Disagree? Just ask Jim Keltner... anyways after Bill recorded me playing guitars and drums, he added a mesmerizing bass line. Then his mind expanding evermore and (everything he’s ever listened to) spilled over into this recording. This recording captures a time, a moment, and an unforgettable experience. I’m honored to be his friend and to have him record and produce me. #rip #billdoss
